A Giant Leap

Dear Baby,

Last week your father and I went to Las Vegas. It was a blast. I hear about couples having a “babymoon” before they take the leap into parenthood. Even though we went for a work conference, I guess you could still consider this ours. But even though we had a great time, I couldn’t help but think of what the end of the trip would mean: our first meeting with our adoption attorney. As we toured hotels and walked the streets in Vegas my eye was drawn to families. Big ones, small ones–all different shapes and sizes. I wonder what ours will look like. All I know now is it will start with you. I asked your dad what he is most excited for when it comes to this adoption. He said he was excited to hold a child in his arms and realize how blessed he is to be a daddy. I adore that man.

I know you will bless our lives, you already have. I am so looking forward to blessing yours in return. Our meeting with the attorney went great. Well, except for the part when I spilled my water glass everywhere. Oops. I was a little jittery and excited…Not to mention I am a bona fide klutz. BUT one who can make a graceful recovery!

We learned a lot about adoption and we asked the attorney and his wife about a million and a half questions. We told them we know you are out there and you are meant to be a part of our family, we just need to find you. They said they couldn’t agree more and it is their job to help us on that journey.

We took another step this weekend too–we registered…Registering for baby items is daunting. Seriously. Daddy and I stood wide-eyed in each aisle trying to figure out which of the 538 bottle options is best and what kind of pacifier is the most soothing. Everyone has an opinion when it comes to babies, and every product package seems to have one too. It was a scary. But on our way out of the store we passed by the baby clothes. I couldn’t help but smile at the tiny socks and shoes and onesies. I wonder if you will be a girl or a boy. Not that it matters, I just wonder.

The attorney suggested getting the essentials ready for our nursery. We’ve been researching car seats, cribs and a million other things like crazy. And I admit I may have gathered a few non-essential items too…Let’s just say the walls are looking a little less bare. 🙂

We love you already. See you soon.

Mommy
